Around The World - Hong Kong

HONG KONG - one of the most exciting cities in the world. This fabulous view of Hong Kong is from the Kowloon Peninsula. There is a laser show every evening and the best place to be is on this side. We stayed at the YMCA - yes, the The Salisbury - YMCA of Hong Kong! It is without question the BEST DEAL in Hong Kong. There are hostel type rooms for students all the way to a family suite with King size bed, huge bathroom, livingroom and floor to ceiling windows. Prices vary by season, but do not compare to the beautiful but expensive Penninsula Hotel which is right next door. It is great for singles, couples, and families.

While in Hong Kong do not fail to take the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour...it's cheap and the best ride in town. Be forewarned that the ticket machines only take coins so make sure you have enough.

Once you are across the harbour if you have time to do just one thing go to Victoria Peak by tram. To get there take the Citybus No. 15 (from Central Exchange Square) and then the tram to the top. It is a spectacular view and a most unusual ride!

Hong Kong is noted for its shopping, food and nightlife, however, it is also a most interesting spot to take children. As usual, make sure that they are always in hand or in sight. A 'Best Practice' for traveling (adult or child) is to get a business card for your hotel, one per person, and keep it in your pocket. You can show it to a policeman, taxi or bus driver wherever you are in the world and they will be able to take you hotel home!
